“She lived with a strong love and passion for her culture and was a true community-driven person who gave time and love to anyone within her vicinity due to her strong faith and love of God.
“She leaves a light that is lit that will continue to shine out from all their hearts.”
The family also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and “truly loving words” they had received in the days since the tragedy.
“They’d like to give a special thanks to the bystanders who rushed in without hesitation to aid her in her time of need.
“It warms their hearts to know her last moments were not alone and amongst a loving, caring community.”
Several members of the public rushed to help Ritchie at the scene of the accident.
An employee at Red Beach Kebabs told the Herald last week he had heard the sound of a “big crash” and immediately ran to help the unconscious woman.
“I held her hand and said, ‘you’ll be all right’, but I don’t think she heard me...
“The firefighters were incredible, they did everything they could. So many people rushed over to help.”
A service to celebrate Ritchie’s life will be held at Ōrewa Community Church this Thursday.
The crash is being investigated by police.
