A blessing has been held at a South Auckland park after police recovered a body from a pond overnight.
Emergency services went to Rongomai Park in Flat Bush about 4pm yesterday after a member of the public found a body in a secluded area of the park.
It was laterrecovered from a pond by police search and rescue.
A whakawātea ceremony, a traditional Māori cleansing ritual, was performed on the shore of the pond this afternoon by Ngāti Whātua kaumātua Reverend Otene Reweti.
Yesterday, walkway entrances into the park, which is next to Te Irirangi Drive, were temporarily cordoned off while police worked in the area.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said an ambulance also attended.
A Herald photographer at the scene yesterday said police search and rescue staff, wearing personal protective equipment and waders, were preparing to deploy an inflatable boat into the pond within the reserve.

A specialist police photographer was also seen at the reserve, while several police vehicles remained on nearby Belinda Ave.
